The Seacoast Child Development Clinic accepts referrals from parents, health care providers, educators and social service professionals. Any child, from newborn to adolescent, can be seen through the clinic. Appropriate referrals are those that require an interdisciplinary approach and questions or issues which have not been fully addressed by local health care practitioners or educational teams.
Evaluation Process
The process begins before the Seacoast Clinic visit. Information is requested from health and educational professionals who have provided care/services to the child and family. This information is an essential component of the evaluation. It is critical that we be able to collaborate with community providers and base our assessment on previously gathered medical and developmental information. Community professionals are invited to attend the Seacoast Clinic visit.
Home/School Visit
Families are offered a home and/or school visit as part of the clinic evaluation and consultation. The purpose of this visit is to: observe the child in a familiar setting, begin a dialogue with those who know the child well regarding their concerns and what they hope to accomplish during the evaluation, clarify any questions based on review of previous records, and establish a collaborative relationship.
Follow-Up
After the clinical evaluation, the Clinic Coordinator works with the family to implement recommendations. If appropriate, arrangements can be made for a limited amount of consultation by team members to referring professionals or school personnel. Assistance is provided to link families with community resources.
